Beyond The Drum – Film Festival

Welcome to the Beyond The Drum Film Festival! A space for sharing documentaries, performances, and informational videos made by taiko people and for taiko people*. Many of the videos included here have been previously released publicly and will stay that way for our public taiko community to enjoy through the convenience of our organized BTD platform; however, select films are exclusive to BD attendees, including the world digital premiere of MACEO: Demon Drummer from East L.A. We hope you’ll join us at Beyond The Drum so you can take full advantage of this rare opportunity!

*A “taiko person” is anyone who enjoys taiko. Period. So, if you enjoy playing, watching, learning about, or just supporting a loved one who loves taiko, you’re a taiko person!

Ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy taiko from your home “theatre”?

MACEO: Demon Drummer from East L.A.

EXCLUSIVE to Beyond The Drum attendees and shown only previously at select in-person film festivals, Maceo “traces the life of Maceo Hernandez-Delgado, a young Chicano who begins playing the Japanese Taiko drums at the age of 13. Recruited to live, train and tour with the world-renowned Japanese drumming group, Ondekoza, this is the compelling story of Maceo’s unique journey to Japan, his struggle to overcome physical, cultural and personal obstacles, and his quest for spiritual and musical roots in East L.A.”     –Container.
