Fiscal Sponsorship

Join TCA's Pilot 2024 Program Year
& Help Shape the Future of TCA!

In 2024, TCA will add a new program to better serve the taiko community. TCA understands that many members of our community are solo artists, community groups, or aspiring nonprofits that could benefit from mentorship and sponsorship to access larger sources of funding.

Examples include applying for specific grant funding or simply providing an avenue to offer tax-deductible contributions from donors. If any or all of this applies to you, then you should consider submitting your interest in having TCA as a fiscal sponsor.

In essence, TCA is a partner for your project, performance, or donation campaign, enabling your donors to receive a tax deduction for their contribution. We also provide a gateway to apply for grants that are solely accessible for 501c3 organizations. We collect these funds and allocate them towards costs and endeavors that align with our mission.

At TCA, we will provide regular meetings to ensure that you receive the support you need to reach your project goals. We're available to answer any questions you may have about project planning, and provide financial oversight to keep you on track.

What is a Fiscal Sponsor?

Our arts-focused fiscal sponsorship program offers a unique bonus: mentorship sessions to guide you through the process. While other services may not offer this valuable resource, we're committed to making sure you have access to the support and guidance you need.

In exchange for these opportunities and services, TCA will retain a 10% admin fee for any grants and donations earned through our sponsorship. To ensure transparency, these fees will be allocated towards staff payroll for financial monitoring and disbursement management, as well as donor reporting assistance.

What can you expect from TCA?

What are the important factors to consider?

While TCA offers grants to a variety of individuals and organizations, there are some important details to keep in mind. For instance, if you are currently sponsored by TCA , you are not eligible to apply for a TCA Grant. Additionally, to ensure that we meet our fiscal sponsorship obligations, we may require periodic financial reports or updates.

It's important to note that we cannot simply donate money without a record of where it is going. Such practices, known as funneling or pass-throughs, could have serious consequences, including the potential loss of TCA's own 501c3 status.

Timeline for Launching the 2024 Pilot Year

  • Mid-October to End of November: Acceptance of Interest Forms

  • December: TCA Board and ED conducts a review of interests and picks the pilot class of participants in the program. Selection will be based on the number of projects the team can manage in 2024.

FAQ’s

Who is eligible to request fiscal sponsorship from TCA?
While TCA aims to support the greater community through this program, we are currently only accepting requests from individuals and groups based in the US for our pilot year.

What types of activities are not eligible for TCA sponsorship?
As an arts 501c3, TCA cannot offer sponsorship to activities that align with or promote political or religious groups or individuals. This includes sponsoring events that raise funds for political candidates or supporting benefit concerts for members of the clergy. TCA will also not sponsor activities unrelated to the supported taiko project.

What is the nature of the fiscal sponsorship relationship?
Once selected for TCA sponsorship, sponsees are expected to stay in touch with our staff via monthly phone, email, or text check-ins. Depending on the fundraising efforts, TCA may also periodically review the project or program's budget/financials.

What if I have no prior experience with fundraising or grants?
This program is designed to benefit artists and groups who want to learn more about fundraising. TCA hopes to provide education in the field while serving as fiscal sponsors.

What does the fiscal sponsorship relationship look like?
If chosen to be fiscally sponsored by TCA, sponsees are required to communicate with our staff on a monthly basis via phone, email, or text. This is to ensure that fundraising plans are being executed and vital deadlines, such as grant applications, are not overlooked. Additionally, TCA may request access to a project or program's financials depending on the fundraising efforts. This is due to TCA being the accountable entity for grants.
